8 Week Timeline
Throughout the years, I have come across many students and people who are new to the city or may having been living in the city for a while and do not go outside and benefit from the various events and activities that the area has to offer. I have also found that more and more people do not want to go out because they much rather stay inside as they are unmotivated, stressed, feeling alone and spend too much time on social media. I believe that many people can do a lot more in the city that they reside in and just need to have the access to the right tools to find an activity or event of similar interests.
Feeling Burnt Out and Stressed
Students are stressed with school and are unmotivated to do anything outside of their comfort zone. Some may feel intimidated or unsure about joining, especially if they don't know anyone in the community.
Community
Many individuals may not be aware of the community's existence or the activities it offers. Also, if activities are marketed in a way that appeal to a specific audience, other might feel excluded.
Variety
People may not engage if the activities don't align with their interests or hobbies. Conversly, if there are too many options without clear guidance, individuals might feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start.
Resources
Some events that people find may be out of reach, and many people may not be aware of all the available options due to a lack of promotion, visibility and do not know where to look in order to find something that they would like to do.
After analyzing our competitors, we have found that there is an opportunity to create a space with a community and variation to create a difference in the market and bring in consumers with this competitive advantage.
Which leads to the question
How Might We aid young adults to have the possibility to get into a hobby or activity so that they can improve their mental wellbeing and keep their mind busy
I started sketching some ideation sketches of what the application would look like in digital form. Our team has made multiple versions where we have concluded with proceeding with the sketch shown below from which I have based the wireframes on.
I then translated the ideation sketches to a low fidelity wireframe which I completed in Uizard. Once completed I started doing some usability testing to find any issues early on.
After completing our low fidelity wireframes, we conducted some testing with users to identify any issues and to improve the app with real time adjustments.
Added a logo and Application name to make the application memorable and welcoming
Added a share button so that users can share events with their friends
Added a profile button to add personal info and preferences for best search results
I then started inputting high fidelity wireframes to determine the apps visual identity to then complete the prototype.
After completing this project, I have learned that collaboration within the team is really important and setting tasks specifically to each individual so that the work can be completed efficiently. Having given more time to complete the project, I would have incorporated some additional features to make the user experience even better for ex. including an instant message system so that users can message each other about the events that they are attending.
I have also learned that it is key to do testing early on as there may be many obstacles that will appear in this process that I would not have noticed earlier on, but... through this, you are able to avoid the users true pain points.
